Captain Jack Woman A Bastion Club Prequel Stephanie Laurens 9780380794553 Books

This was actually my first full-length novel by Stephanie Laurens. Prior to picking up this book I'd otherwise only read a handful of her short stories or novellas. And while I didn't love this particular story, I have to admit that the author's writing style and dialogue were well done. For some reason though it just didn't engage me much and ended up taking me four days to finish instead of my normal one or two. Please be aware that the title is somewhat deceiving also. I thought since Jack was a "Captain" that I was in for a high seas adventure, which is absolutely not the case. The story basically takes place on land and revolves around a smuggling gang.

Kit was the one thing about this book that I adored. Smart, pretty and untamed, my only complaint with her was how she "melted" (for lack of a better word) whenever Jack looked at or touched her. This would cause her to forget everything else and do anything at all he told her to. Jack on the other hand I never truly cared for, as I found him too autocratic and demanding for my liking. And once he has Kit he tries to change her, although her wildness was a major factor in his falling in love with her to begin with. Their passion and chemistry however was never in doubt, and I was impressed with the love scenes which were very sexy and well written.

As a couple I thought these two were well suited and I definitely felt the connection between them. I probably would have enjoyed this book more if Jack had bent a little bit in his "my way or no way" of thinking. Overall I wasn't blown away by this story, though I can easily see that Ms. Laurens has plenty of potential as a romance author. While I'm in no huge rush, I certainly plan on reading the next book in the "Bastion Club" series at some point and just hope I enjoy that book more than I did this one.

Captain Jack Woman A Bastion Club Prequel Stephanie Laurens 9780380794553 Books Reviews

I love all her stories. The characters are all so multidimensional and you can almost imagine yourself as one of them. I recommend all her books to my friends. If you enjoy a good romance and love the historical settings then these are the books for you
CAPTAIN JACK'S WOMAN operates as a prequel to the Bastion Club series. It is the story of Kathryn "Kit" Cranmer who returns home to her grandfather's estate after six unsuccessful years on the marriage mart in London. Kit is feisty, defies convention and is ungovernable. Within days she ends up becoming the leader of a small band of smugglers. Kit has a habit of riding in the guise of a boy and no one suspects that she is a lady.

Her smuggling activities bring her to the attention of the leader of the rival gang of smugglers, Captain Jack. Jack had secrets of his own. He is actually Lord Hendon and is helping uncover French spies for England. Jack is wild, a rake and doesn't share his thoughts and plans with others.

When he makes a proposition for the two bands to join forces, he is appalled by his reaction to the lad Kit. When he realizes that Kit is actually a woman, Jack makes plans to make her his mistress. Kit, who never plans to marry, begins to think about expanding her education with the sexy smuggler.

This book is very sexy and hot. Jack and Kit are both wild, untamed people who strike sparks of of one another. The story in this book was one that kept me turning pages and reading through the night because it was filled with action and romance.

The happenings by which the two fail to discover one another's real incentives kept me smiling. Yes, there were some unbelievable events, but a good story can cause a reader to suspend disbelief and accept the story on its own term. In that, this book abides by its own rules. I also admit that I do tend to like larger than life stories as long as they are well written.

This book kept me turning pages and I am sure to read it again because the story was a memorable one with interesting characters.
These are the beginning and foundation of Cynster stories. I also highly recommend The Promise in a Kiss!!
These are by far her best work!
I haven't read a Stephanie Laurens book I didn't like. I love 95 percent of them. I've read alot of reviews for her books where people complain that it is the same ole thing, different day. I love that about her books. I know I am going to get a mystery, a sense of family, alot of steamy yummy scenes and a happy ending. I love that her heroines are not " simple" and her heroes are so male. Love this book.
You could tell it was Stephanie's earlier works because it just wasn't up to par like her current books are. I liked the smuggling parts though.
I LOVE ANY AND ALL OF HER BOOKS....THIS ONE STARTED ME ON THE BASTIAN CLUB SERIES....
I seriously cannot rave enough about STEPHANIE LAURENS books.
The first one is as good as the second, third, fourth as many as she has written ....LOL )
Any of her book's or series is just as interesting as the first one you begin reading .
Awesome, excellent reading... I would recommend any and all STEPHANIE LAURENS Books.
Once you read just one of her books ) you just wont want to ever stop ,
Captain Jack, is actually a prelude to the bastion novels and one of the better ones. You know the story, a lord working undercover for the crown, in this case as a smuggler with his trusty band of men when along comes a young lad who supposedly is in the same racket, that of course is our heroine Kit. This is not rocket science, what it is, is a formula that is tried and true in most romance novels. In this case though it is done better than most. Stephanie Laurens is a good writer and a good storyteller. I think that you will like this one. I gave it 3 stars because I am very stingy when it comes to handing out stars, I give 4 and 5's to what I consider as excellence.
