Everybody has challenges at some time or another in life. What's hard is that a lot of people who seem so successful don't usually talk about the hard times and how to get through them. This is a book that does just that. It's a comforting blend of stories and ideas. It's a kind of "workshop-in-a-book". You could bring this book to some friends and start a support group. Or you could snuggle up in your favorite reading spot for some nurturing words by a team of women who have been through it and not only survived, but thrived. It's a book of comfort, and inspiration. It's "girlfriend time" on paper that goes to the heart and soul of the matter. The only critical thing I can say is that there were more quotes than I wanted...they interrupted the flow of the authors who say so much so well. (And this from someone who loves good quotes myself!) Reading this book is a great gift to give yourself or a friend to help you through challenging times.
To Deborah, Jackie, Michealene, and Jan: Thank you! <3

Four outstanding women share their insights to surviving life's setbacks. Includes ideas to move forward after tragedy in one's life. Easy reading and throughly enjoyed.
I know this sounds like an exageration, but it is not. I guess I was ready for the messages, and after reading this book, I feel less afraid to take some risks in my life, in order to move it forward and become more happy. This book will be re-read (isn't leaving my library, and I've recommended it to all of my friends) over and over. Thanks to the four authors who became transparent in order to write a great book with wonderful insights.
The book is written very well and flows nicely. A great read of wisdom by four very wise women. Every women should read this book.
This book was true to the reviews and summaries! I gleaned so much out of this book personally that I purchased a 2nd copy to give to one of my clients, someone I knew was struggling in various aspects of her life. The book contains exercises at the end of each chapter to solidify the message/content of the information in that chapter. This was very useful to fully understanding the content of the book's chapters. I would purchase this again for anyone who is feeling unfulfilled with life at the moment, or needs affirmation of where they are in their life in the moment.
This is not the life I ordered is more than what I expected. I feel as if I am in the living room with these wonderful women. Anyone who reads it will not be able to stay the same. It also reminds one that all women of whatever status need to stay up on their finances. You will love the women in the book, they are honest but yet encouraging. This is a MUST READ.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have bought it as a gift for several friends. It tells of the challenging life stories of 4 women who found each other and found that they shared some common challenges, and became friends (and co-writers). The fascinating read part includes the story of a woman who, while visting Jonestown, Guyana, as part of the official investigating party, was shot and left for dead. She tells of her promise to herself that if she survived, she would never shrink away from any important battle. (as a State Senator, she was known for standing up for the "common person", challenging the special interests that most legislators shied away from). All the women share their stories of becoming widows, losing a pregnancy or facing life threatening illnesses of a family member. But it's not the stories that are important, but rather what they made of their lives after the challenge(s) they faced. And, without being preachy, their share their insights in a very practical way that you can apply to the challenges of your life. A good read; you feel like the women are sitting down to have coffee with you and chatting like your best girlfriend. Highly recommended.
I love this book so much, I've bought it twice! (honestly by mistake but now I have another copy to loan.) I've passed it along to family and friends. The title caught my eye at the library, where I first read it and the stories were so amazing. It reminds me that I can deal with what life throws at me it's all in the attitude. Support of friends also helps. Well written, excellent read if nothing else. On my third reading I still found something new.
